Almaia
A downloadable game
You live in Almaia, the only land you have ever or will ever know; several thousand square miles of wilderness and endless coastlines battered by roaring seafoam, dotted with crumbling ruins, tended fields, and mighty cities, and peopled with any and anyone you could think of. In Almaia, life goes on as it always has, and yea, may always will.
You and your companions come from many walks of life, none of them noble. Your lowly livelihoods have resulted in your accruing a considerable debt: you're not sure you want to know what will happen if you don't pay it off.
Almaia is an RPG ruleset designed as an expansion of Cairn by Yochai Gal, featuring all-new character backgrounds and an OSR-compatible magic system. Due to the modular nature of the mechanics with which the game was designed, Almaia can just as well be a land of mythic heroics or grimdark dungeon-slogging depending on what the referee finds the most entertaining to write and run. The only limitation is this: player characters start poor, of no significant birth, and in serious, serious debt.
Special features include 12 optional character backgrounds featuring character building tools that may be plugged into any OSR-style game for extra flair without special class abilities; a detailed magical misfire system inspired by Goodman Games' Dungeon Crawl Classics that can also be worked into any other OSR-style magic system; and a d100 table of levelless spells adapted from Ben Milton's Knave for genre-agnostic use in this or other OSR-style games.
Sometime in the next few months an adventure for this system will be released. Stay tuned!
